Some John Watt History

A year ago I decided to expand the business that I have devoted the last 15 years of my life to. I’m 65 years old and people probably think I’m crazy for doing this when I only have forty or fifty more years to live. Of course many of my friends and relatives think I’ve been crazy for some time. That opinion was solidified when I ran for the state legislature in 1990. I digress…

I’m going to do this every week and try to cover topics that will either provoke shared opinions or maybe just bring a smile to your face.

For the last 25 years, I’ve dedicated my life to making my community a better place to live, work and play. I’ve chosen to do that by first serving as a state representative in the Oregon Legislature for 8 years, and then advocating for local businesses in the legislative process. My driving philosophy is that if people are making money by working, everyone will enjoy a healthy and productive lifestyle. That is just my belief - not everyone agrees with me and that’s okay. In any event, I have learned a great deal about how we keep a society civil by crafting, passing and implementing laws through the legislative process. Early in my education, civics classes were the norm. Since leaving the school system, civics has slowly gone by the wayside in many school districts.

It serves us all well to have a basic knowledge of how our system of governance works. That is what JWA will attempt to cover in some of the future blogs. Additionally, we will discuss current issues that face our state, our nation and our world.

We hope you find our writings, both educational and thought provoking. Your comments are welcome. After all, this is America and all of us should listen and respect others opinions. However, disrespectful comments and inappropriate language will not be tolerated. JWA looks forward to hearing from you!
